Community Radio - Technorama's "Crisis Averted" Roadshow

Date : 29 / 06 / 2026
Author : John Maizels VK4APM

Amateur radio operators have long been at the forefront of broadcast engineering, with many community radio stations
relying on the technical expertise of volunteers who also hold an amateur radio licence.
If you're interested in RF systems, antennas, transmitters, networking or keeping critical communications
infrastructure on the air, there's an event coming up that may be right up your alley.

Technorama, the peak body supporting technologists in Australia's community broadcasting sector, will present its
Queensland TR26 Roadshow – "Crisis Averted" from 24 to 26 July at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast, with the main
conference day taking place on Saturday 25 July.
The event focuses on practical, real-world strategies to help stations reduce risk, recover from technical failures
and build resilient systems that volunteers can confidently manage.

The Saturday program includes sessions on keeping stations on air, transmission site maintenance, antennas and cabling,
disaster recovery, cybersecurity, future broadcast technology and plenty of real-world "horror stories" highlighting
lessons learned from equipment failures and unexpected outages.
There are also optional station tours, networking opportunities and social events on the Friday and Sunday.

For radio amateurs, Technorama provides an opportunity to broaden existing technical skills while learning about the
operation and maintenance of professional broadcast facilities.
Community radio stations often rely on technically-minded volunteers, and the experience gained can be invaluable for
anyone interested in RF engineering, transmission systems or broadcast technology.

Registration is remarkably affordable, with discounted rates available for Technorama members.
If you've ever wondered what it's takes to keep a community radio station on the air, or you'd like to put your amateur
radio knowledge to work in another part of the communications industry, this is an event well worth considering.
