Shortwave Radiogram
Program 378
Hello friends,
As we approach the second Trump administration, the future of shortwave becomes a topic of some interest to the politico-bureaucratic world, and of much interest to us in the Shortwave Radiogram community. Project 2025, widely considered to be a blueprint for the next administration, discusses the importance of shortwave for the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), even as newer media become more prominent. Maybe USAGM shortwave sites will be preserved, for now.
I believe that shortwave broadcasting in the other direction -- from other countries to the USA -- could also become more important during the Trump administration. I've written an article explaining this, but, so far, no publication is interested in using it. Apparently, mention shortwave, and the author is dismissed as a crackpot.
Now that the fall time change has taken hold, please note in the schedule below that most of our transmissions stay with their UTC times, but some have stayed with local time at the transmitter site, this changing the UTC time. And make the conversion from UTC to your local time is correct. (Saturday at 2300-2330 UTC, if you don't hear Shortwave Radiogram on 7780 kHz, try the former 7570 kHz frequency, which might be repaired by this weekend.)
A video of last week's Shortwave Radiogram (program 377) is provided by Scott in Ontario (Wednesday 1330 UTC). The audio archive is maintained by Mark in the UK. Analysis is provided by Roger in Germany.
Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 378, 15-20 November 2024, in MFSK modes as noted:
1:37 MFSK32: Program preview
2:44 MFSK32: Antimatter can travel by truck
5:28 MFSK64: Why is the oboe used to tune an orchestra?*
11:51 MFSK64: This week's images*
28:02 MFSK32: Closing announcements
