This week in the field of radio amateur radio in Panama, the activity was marked by the update of the national network of repeaters and simulations of preparation for regional emergencies.
📡 1. Publication of the Updated List of Repeaters (August 2026)
The Ministry of Government of Panama (MINGOB) published the official and refined list of the Repeated Repeated Stations Authorized for Amateur Radio.
New Nodes: The inclusion of critical repeaters from the Panamanian Union of Amateur Radio (UPRA) and Radio Club de Panama in VHF and UHF bands was formalized.
Key Locations: The operation of strategic repeaters in Cerro Cabra (Chorrera) was validated in the 147,180 MHz and in Cerro Campana in the digital frequency DMR, optimizing the coverage of the national emergency network in the metropolitan area and central provinces.
ܨ 2. Networking for the Earthquake in Colombia
Panamanian radio amateurs remained on alert and monitoring of HF bands (mainly at 40 and 20 meters).
The Reason: To serve as backup channels due to the earthquake of significant magnitude that affected Colombia a few days ago.
Action: Panamanian Radio League operators cooperated by maintaining interference-free frequencies to facilitate Colombian Radio Amateur League (LCRA) emergency bulletins, who took over telecommunications in areas where cellular infrastructure collapsed.
💻 3. Expansion and Testing on the LoRa APRS and C4FM Network
The C4FM Panama Group (PCARA) coordinated field tests to verify coverage of its digital gateways.
Infrastructure: Data traffic was consolidated by LoRa microcontrollers at 433 MHz, managing to expand automatic telemetry to global servers (APRS-IS) without the need to use saturated VHF frequencies.
📝 4. Growth in the Active Operator Registry
The Directorate of Social Media of the MINGOB integrated into the national system the files of the applicants who passed the latest Class B licensing exams. This raised the number of operators with enabled indications (HP) to transmit legally in the national territory.
