For those of you that use the Webmail Interface of BPQ32 to author messages using the Standard Templates, here is a shortcut on how to keep these forms up-to-date and sychronized with the Winlink Standard forms. If you use LinBPQ or PlinBPQ then skip to othe bottom and find the "LinBPQ User?"

What we will be doing:

1. Renaming the Standard_Templates folder (if it exists) so that it is no longer used by BPQ32.
2. Creating a short cut to the RMS Express Standard Templates in the BPQ32 configuration folder.

Done. Yes, it is that easy.

What this will do for you:

Periodically Winlink Express updates their standard forms. It happens when you start Winlink Express and you see the prompt that Winlink Express needs to update to the most recent version of the forms. You of course accept this and after a minutes it has updated the forms. You have no idea what was updated but good. You now have update forms. But BPQ is still using the old forms you probably installed shortly after you installed BPQ.

Having a short cut in your BPQ32 Configuration folder that points to your Winlink Express Templates folder will allow BPQ32 to access those forms as it runs. No need to update them. When Winlink Express updates the forms they are just used by BPQ32, once you complete this process.

How to do this:

Step 1. First you open your BPQ32 Configuration Folder. If you do not see a Standard_Templates folder then just skip this step.

If you see a folder called Standard_Templates then complete this step. Click on the Standard_Templates folder, pause a second, then click on it again. This puts you into the edit mode where you can change the name of the folder. Alternatively you can right-click on it and select Rename. Just add something like _old or _backup to the end of the folder name so that now you have a folder called Standard_Templates_old or Standard_Templates_Backup, or whatever you want.

Step 2. This step assumes that your home folder's name is YourName. You will need to alter the commands to fit your own user name.
It also assumes that you have Winlink Express installed at C:\RMS Express
This assumes that the BPQ32 Configuration folder is at c:\users\your_name\appdata\roaming\BPQ32
This is applicable to Windows 10, at least. Maybe 11. You may know the start button as some other name.

Step 3. Now open a command window by clicking Windows Start, type CMD and select the Command Prompt application.
In the Command Prompt window enter the following command changing the YourName with the actual name of your home folder.

mklink /J "C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\BPQ32\Standard_Templates" "C:\RMS Express\Standard Templates"

Check it carefully for the quotes and the underscore in the first and not the second occurance of Standard Templates.

After pressing enter you will find a folder named Standard_Templates in your BPQ32 Configuration Folder with a little arrow in the bottom left corner of the folder icon signifying that it is a short cut. (And the old Standard_Templates_xxx folder that you renamed.)

Step 4. Restart BPQ Mail

All Done!

Test your result.

Use your browser to access your BPQ WebMail. Click Send Message. When the new message form appears you will see the Use Template button. Use it as you did before to select the desired template to send your message.

Now there is no need to ever update your Templates in BPQ32. BPQ32 will simply use the Templates that Winlink Express keeps updated for you. You do need to open Winlink Express once in a while. Afterall, you should be using it occasionally.

LinBPQ user? Your on your own...

Does it work? It has for me so far. Try it and if it does not work for you then delete your mistake and try again, or just rename your old folder back the way it was....

Disclaimer. Do this at your own risk. Get help if you are not familiar with the terms, features, and functions described. I make no guarantees that you can acually do this correct without assistance. I do not know how this affects custom templates as I do not use custom templates.

This procedure will be deprecated if John puts a configuration parameter in the BPQMail configuration. Thanks to John for all his hard work. I wonder if that is how it works now and all this is not necessary? Hmm...
