I was intrigued by the possibilty of packet radio on
NetBSD because NetBSD will run on anything. Anyhow
the packet programs that come with their 3rd party
ports tree is TFKISS, TNT and DPBOX. They all
work together. TFKISS emulates a hostmode TNC.
You can use it with a real KISS tnc on a
serial port, or with AX.25 over IP or
UDP. TNT is a powerful terminal app, and
DPBOX is a full featured BBS. I was thinking
that it was just going to be a personal mailbox, but it
is one of the best BBS softwares that I have played
with. I got it fully running on Linux after getting
intrigued by it on NetBSD. It has some bugs in NetBSD,
but I am going to try to squash them using AI as I am
not a C programmer. I would just run it on Linux,
but the most resent version of Linux that compile
works in Slackware 11 (and that is really old).
It mostly works on NetBSD, but crashes when a new
user registers and when forwarding occurs. So
far I have figured out is that it is related
to a timestamp. I hope to have it running 100%, and
maybe I can get some more sysops to give it a try
on their system -- or possibly if someone wants
to have a PBBS running on a Pi or Sega Dreamcast.
-73 for now KQ6UP
