SOTA VK Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary
Date : 01 / 02 / 2022
Author : Peter Frazer VK3ZPF
WIA Congratulates SOTA VK on their 10 year Anniversary.
A great milestone and achievement by many dedicated SOTA (Summits On The Air) operators promoting one of the various
and popular aspects of Amateur Radio activities with a combination of the outdoors and bush walking.

Ten years ago VK joined the world of SOTA with the VK3 Association going live on 1 February 2012.

From what I recall, the first VK3 activation was not by a VK3, but by a visiting overseas operator.
Unfortunately, I can not recall who it was, or which summit was first activated.
The earliest VK3 activator I can find is the VK3 Association Manager Wayne, VK3WAM,
activating VK3/VT-066 Mt Worth on 11 Feb 2012.
My first activation on 26 February 2012 was VK3/VC-025, Mt Dandenong using an FT7 and a sealed lead acid battery.
I think I have all the emails at the time from the old VK3 SOTA Yahoo Group on a Windows 98 PC in the shack.
Maybe later this month I'll fire it up and reminisce some more.
Cheers
