Hello friends

This weekend, Shortwave Radiogram will again try some Russian text. So far we have not been able to convince any of the international news organizations that provide content in Russian to transmit text via shortwave on a regular basis. A likely reason for this is that, despite the widespread blocking of websites in Russia, YouTube and the Telegram messaging service are still available to external news providers. VPNs and circumvention tools are also much touted as ways for Russians to access information that is blocked.

Nevertheless, the shortwave option should be exercised, at least once a week, so that its is available if there is further interdiction of the internet in Russia. In past weeks, I have noticed that Shortwave Radiogram MFSK32 signals have been successfully decoded from our distant transmitters, even when the signal is not good enough for complete comprehension of conventional voice content.

Our Russian text this weekend will be from Radio Svoboda, the Russian service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. If your Fldigi decode is rectangles rather Russian letters, copy those rectangles from the Fldigi receiver pane to a word processor, and the content might display correctly.

A video of last weekend's Shortwave Radiogram (program 260) is provided by Scott in Ontario (Friday 1300 UTC). The audio archive is maintained by Mark in the UK. Analysis is prepared by Roger in Germany.

Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 261, 30 June-5 July 2022, in MFSK modes as noted:

 1:36 MFSK32: Program preview
 2:43 MFSK32: Russian text from RFE/RL*
9:14 MFSK64: Cygnus cargo ship allows US to control ISS orbit*
13:11 MFSK64: This week's images*
28:16 MFSK32: Closing announcements
