I started our hobby when I was 15. Actually my father was a HAM operator,
and I had the opportunity to watch him SSB/CW work, but I wanted to try
digital modes.

Those days we had a ZX-Spectrum clone but I did not manage to make it work
correctly with RTTY/SSTV HAM programs. My first successful experience
happened when we bought a 486 PC and I was able to receive stations using
a HamCom modem. And then after a while I tried PSK mode using a sound
card.

I first noticed Packet Radio operations when I was playing old DOS MIX
program. It was compressed traffic between two HF BBS but I thought it was
a garbage, lol. I had a lack info about PR communications and did not know
how to manage it work using DOS MIX program (later I found out there was
no L2 core). Unfortunatelly that DOS MIX had limited (FEC mode only)
Pactor mode as well..

Finally, my first Packet Radio connection happened using one of the first
MixW versions. It was a turkish BBS on 40M. There were good old days when
we had a lot of Packet Radio traffic on HF and it was easy to catch
someone..

Later I tried a lot of Packet Radio stuff, but it's another story... ;)

Nowadays I am mostly active on 20M (NET105).

73 de Andy, UZ7HO
