South Africa country (ZS ham prefix) always had BBS H-address of *.ZAF.AF - no problems with SA-continent code.

1. There is no official designed geographical continent of "Central America", just North and South.
2. Mail should be routed by country code included in H-address next after continent code (from right to left processing)
For example, for Hounduras country - *.HND.NA

> What about the Antarctica? Middle East? or MARS (as in Military Auxiliary Amateur Radio)?

Maybe Antarctica can use *.AN code, why not? :-)

About Middle East - there are no sense to divide it from Asia,
*.AS for Asia continent is enough add before country code too.

Same, no practical sense to divide African continent to South, West etc...

MARS never mixed our HAM packet net, as I'm remember, its have own separate
bbs net with their "long" MARS callsigns.

But it was long time ago and the main purpose of change was to try not mix packet
H-address with possible Internet/e-mail domains which was 2-chars too in that time.
Its was need for some old BBS soft, which was included e-mail system too.
But now we can have on Internet also 4-chars domains!
Like .ASIA or .EURO on Internet system.

Thus, the changes proposed then (in mid 90's) have lost their meaning today!
And we can continue safe use of original 2-char continent codes which correspond
100o the codes of Earth's geographic continents.
Mixed BBS systems (email classic bbs pmail) use now some other method to separate mails (rewrite file etc.)

73, HNY!
Sergej.
