VK7RUN-3 Repeater Back On Air

News from VK7YAD in regard to the VK7RUN-3 repeater, which is active on weekends covering Launceston CBD in particular.

Due to an outbreak of unidentified data transmissions RUN-3 has been off air for quite a while however it seems that the problem has passed, testing over the last several weeks shows no signs of it so far.

As a result, VK7RUN-3 has resumed weekend services, 431.850MHz input, 438.850MHz output providing excellent cover in and about the CBD and additional capacity for the busy summer ahead and no CTCSS requirements for access.

A big thank you to Jordan VK3ACU for hosting the Wednesday evening TestNet and TechNet session. Jordan and Kiran VK3BTV even tackled the CW side of the nightâ€Ös net and from what I hear they all had a fun evening, something to do with inverse morse code…… With the aid of modern technology in the form of Discord, Nic VK7WW was able to keep an eye on things by listening to the off air streaming audio channel provided by Phil VK7ZPD who was holding the Discord side of things together as usual. Rumour has it Nic was “kicking back” and listening to the net from his opulent accommodation within a Douglas DC3 aircraft! Enjoy the break while you can Nic, but it looks like you left things in good hands.

By the time you hear this on Sunday morning we will be half way through this yearâ€Ös JOTA/JOTI two day event! If you would like to assist and volunteer some of your time you still have until 3pm. Just drop down to the Venue at the NTARC Club rooms, at the Rocherlea Scout Hall, Archer St. Or if you prefer, listen out and respond to any CQ JOTA calls as I am sure we will need some local contacts to chat with the participants on air in case we canâ€Öt link up to other Scout venues.

UPCOMING EVENTS

TestNet and TechNet session - Every Wednesday, TestNet/CW course on 3.580MHz from 7 pm till 7.30 pm, then a TechNet on 3.567MHz from 7.30 pm till 8.30 pm. Your host for the evening might be Nic VK7WW.

Club Room Technical night session - The next session will be on Wednesday the 23rd October and will commence at the usual time of 6.30 pm at the Club Room Archer Street, Rocherlea.

Coffee Morning - held every Friday in the NTARC Club rooms. Time is from 10 am to noon and we look forward to seeing you all there. So why not pop in check the QSL cards and join us for a cuppa, there is endless tea and coffee along with biscuits available for a donation.

Finally - A reminder to all members that if you have any items of news you would like added to our weekly roundup, no matter how trivial, then please email them to the Secretary at the following address news(at)ntarc.net all items to be received no later than 5 pm on the Friday prior to the Broadcast.

Thatâ€Ös all folks,

73 from Stefan, VK7ZSB, Secretary NTARC Inc.

Wednesday Experimenterâ€Ös Nights

Last Wednesday Experimenterâ€Ös Group nights we featured the Tassie Ham-E-Con, SSTV pictures from the ISS and the KV4P HT hand held project.

We started with a huge promotion of the Tassie Ham-E-Con with the raffle prizes, bookings and even showed the great Lanyard people who attend will get.

We then got Steve VK7OO and Richard VK7ZBX into the studio. Steve and Richard have been receiving SSTV pictures from Expedition 72 on the International Space Station between Tuesday, October 8 and Monday 14th and the pictures came down on 145.8 MHz and the mode was PD 120. The pictures are transmitted on a 2 minute cycle of image break image.

There was 12 images developed by the students at Southwest State University (SWSU) in Kursk, Russia.

https://www.spaceflightsoftware.com/ARISS_SSTV/

Steve VK7OO and Richard VK7ZBX went through their images and described their setup and equipment.

Thanks to Ben VK7BEN and HackADay we took a look at the website for an Interesting project from KV4P.

The KV4P HT - 2m handheld module for an android phone

https://www.kv4p.com/

It is fully Open Source, uses a USB-C port, has an ESP32 processor, the PCB design and 3D printer files are all available. The control surface is an application on the Android phone and it works even if the mobile phone is not connected so fully off-grid operation and even has a text function using packet AX25. The RF power is 1 Watt and it has a closed captions function. All for US$35 to build with 3 components. Take a look at the website for more.

https://www.kv4p.com/quick_start.html

This Wednesday night we will have Richard VK7ZBX and his Earth-Moon-Earth contesting, our last promo of the conference, the latest DUBUS and Low-Key magazines and if we have time a handy application for the NanoVNA and a great addition to the shack test bench.

People start arriving at the night around 6pm and many bring their dinner to enjoy.

There is always much discussion, experimenting, playing, talking, drinking coffee and tea, serious cunning plan development and general amateur radio shenanigans and world problem solving in the clubrooms as well!!

https://www.reast.asn.au/news-events/live-stream/

https://www.reast.asn.au/special-interest-groups/amateur-tv/

https://www.youtube.com/c/ReastHobart/

We stream the nights on the REAST YouTube streaming channel and we also go out on RF - DVB-T 7MHz Standard Definition on 445.5MHz. So, if you have a TV, Set-top box or USB DTV Dongle that you can tune and scan 445.5MHz and you can see the Queens Domain, then you have a good chance of receiving the DATV Experimenter's Night Signal. Look out for VK7OTC.

See you there or on the stream.
