REGIONAL APRS TECHNICAL BULLETIN
Monitoring and Traffic Metrics in Central America

## Edition: 7-Day Digest (Central America) Date: September 28

REGIONAL NETWORK GENERAL STATUS

* Coverage Infrastructure and Active Nodes
Over the past week, APRS network traffic in Central America remained concentrated
along the urban and interurban corridors of Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Panama,
supported by local VHF digipeaters (144.390 MHz across most of the region and
144.930 MHz in parts of Panama) and active iGates.
* Packet Traffic Volume and Beacons
The primary data flow consisted of mobile position reports (Mic-E / GPS) from
en-route stations, followed by telemetry from fixed weather stations (WX) and
periodic repeater status broadcasts.
* iGate Performance and APRS-IS Routing
RF packet routing to the global internet network (APRS-IS) maintained stable
operation, enabling seamless telemetry packet tracking without significant packet
loss across key hops (WIDE1-1, WIDE2-1).

| AREA / COUNTRY | EST. USAGE | DOMINANT TRAFFIC TYPE | INFRASTRUCTURE & STATUS |
 ------------------ --------------- --------------------------- -------------------------------
| Costa Rica | 35Y | Fixed Stations / WX | Urban Coverage / via RF |
| Guatemala | 28Y | Mobile Position / WX | Active Digipeaters / iGates |
| Panama | 22Y | Mobile Traffic / Local RF | Canal Coverage / IGate-IS |
| El Salvador | 8Y | Repeaters / Telemetry | Metropolitan Coverage / RF |
| Rest of C.A. | 7Y | Satellite Passes (LEO) | Occasional / Mobile Activity |
 ------------------ --------------- --------------------------- -------------------------------

## NETWORK MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS

Stations in the region are advised to optimize beacon rates to prevent VHF channel
congestion and ensure power redundancy for key iGates during local power outages.
