GE All, and welcome to the Sep 28 2026 PCL Net.

Early check-ins from Endaf, N6UTC...Wayne, KC2NJV,
was short time due to allergy flare-ups...and
Scott, K0WAV, was short time due to a schedule
conflict. Not sure what happened to David, KD9KYL.

Net order is Daryl, Charley, Bob (NY), Carl, Rick,
and whoever else shows up.

I had a health scare last week. Last Tuesday night,
both Rick, KA2BSM, and myself, had terrible coughing
fits. I hope we're not to the point of transmitting
diseases over the air, or we're all in big trouble!!

Anyway, the hacking like a cat with a hairball kept
me up much of the night. After a few hours of sleep,
I woke up with severe chest pain and tightness, but
I didn't have any of the other heart attack symptoms
(cold and clammy sweats, nausea, vomiting, pain down
the arms, etc.).

After the ambulance got me to the Emergency Room, they
set up an I.V., drew blood, did a chest X-Ray, an EKG,
and a CT Scan with the dye (that creates the nice warm
feeling that you're going to pee all over yourself!!).

The diagnosis was that all of the heart functions and
enzymes were OK. But, I had coughed so badly, that I
had severely inflamed and strained my chest muscles.
So, they prescribed some pain medication (which I
haven't had to take yet), and sent me home.

I still have to undergo a chemical stress test and an
echocardiogram on Oct. 26. Yet, for a heart patient,
this was the best outcome one could hope for with
chest pain and tightness.

It looks like we'll finally get some much needed
rain, and cooler temperatures to start October. I
still see several outlooks that say Arkansas will
get one heck of a winter...we shall see.

I'm now doing ham radio nets on a nightly basis, as
my back, hips, and legs, can't take the pace of
active square dancing anymore...but, I still do a
bunch of work in the background. With any hobby, you
can always get participants, but you can't always get
workers. You can see that list on my QRZ bio.

I was in a "nothing sounds good" mood, foodwise;
and wanting something besides tuna salad sandwiches.
I looked at several deals from Doordash, and nothing
tickled my taste buds; until I saw a deal from Subway,
buy one get one sandwich. So, I ordered 2 turkey sub
footlongs with provolone cheese and other items, plus
2 bags of Doritos chips. One was my dinner tonight,
and the other is lunch tomorrow. With H.A.M. standing
for Have Another Meal, you know I had to get food in
here somewhere (hi hi).

Not sure what happened to David, so we'll move on.

GE Charley, how was your week?? >>>

**

NT5R:

ge everyone

Your H. A. M. reminds of something just heard today

We talking about grits and the gal we having lunch with
Mimi N0IZY said grits means Girls Raised In The South

Sounds good to me. Love grits and Donnie's Diner in
Branson West has good grits

In Hawaii one time asked waitress if they had grits
and she had no clue what talking about!

Daryl happy your tests turned out good. Coughing or
even extra heaving breathing during exercise can
tire your chest muscles

FB on your nets. Many ways to stay busy and contribute
square dance club or ham radio.

So btu>>>

**

NK5LA:

Charley, I normally don't care for grits, but the
definition with YLs is a lot more appealing. And,
Hawaii is where you go to get lei'd (hi hi). I
just can not do as much as I used to, physically.

GE Bob, how was your week?? >>>

**

NS2B:

GE All.

An uneventful week.

I like cheesy grits! Can't find 'em around here
though. At least there are a few places that make
a passable biscuits and gravy.

Was down at the track Saturday flagging for the
Vintage Racing Group. It was a nice day - a bit
cool, but not terrible.

The new node installation continues to tick along
nicely. I'm seriously considering pulling down the
20m antenna and going up with 40m as propagation on
20 seems gone these days. Maybe later this week,
I'll get into that.

That's all for me, BTU Dayrl >>>

**

NK5LA:

Bob, I like scratch biscuits and butter or with sausage
gravy, but not a grits fan. FB on the race flagging...
but you may have just jinxed the new node (hi hi). It
will be interesting to see how propagation does this
winter.

GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

GE all on the net.

Pretty successful week overall.

I finally got VARA HF working; it was just a matter of
figuring out all the radio settings. Oh, for the old days
when all the settings were knobs on the front panel!

Anyway, once I got it working, I sprung for the license,
so I have a full VARA suite up and running.

I am having fun with the nightly NTS net and I see that
there is an ISS event coming up. This coming weekend, the
ISS will be broadcasting SSTV images again. I will have
to see what I can catch.

Today has been overcast and rainy all day, but the temperature
has come down below 80 and I have been happily sitting out on
the back porch much of the day. Rainy never really amounts to
much here, it just drizzles all day. Most people, myself
included, don't even bother with a raincoat or umbrella. We
just dash between the raindrops.

HAMWORD went very fast today. I had a lucky first guess with
three 2s in the response, so now I have to wait until next week
for another puzzle.

Oh, Daryl, I once had a coughing fit so bad I pulled a chest
muscle, and wound up stuck in bed for almost a full week. I
swore I thought I broke a rib, but it was a muscle pull.
Man, that hurt!

That's about all for now. Back to net >>>

**

NK5LA:

Carl, FB on the VARA HF and the NTS nets. As for weather, I
saw where the 4 corners northeast into Iowa are under flood
watches from the remnants of Polo and Odalys. We won't get
that much here, but any will help. FB on Hamword, and now
when I get a coughing fit, if I end up standing up, the
sciatic nerve in my left hip and leg gets pinched.

GE Rick, how was your week?? >>>

**

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on NET.

It was a busy week. I had an old friend visiting from Portland,
OR for a few days, we have known each other since first grade,
it was good to yak about old times.

Our temps are dropping, we are now hitting the high 30's F,
and I've started winterizing... snow tires are on, and the
sprinkler system is shut down and the lines are blown out with
the air compressor.

Tomorrow is Arlene's 72nd birthday, so we are going out to
dinner. Next week we are heading to Vancouver for the week
to attend her grad re-union, and visit with our Son and his
family.

I'll be missing the NET, but back on-air the following Monday.

Propagation has been crappy on 40M and 20M, so not a lot of
radio play, except for the 80M OLIVIA 16/1K NET on weeknights.

Well, that's about it, so BTU Daryl >>>

**

NK5LA:

Rick, first...happy birthday to your XYL...enjoy the dinner.
FB on visiting with the long life friend...I quit going to
reunions years ago, although I still go to the local college
in early October for a fall campus picnic and a free lunch.
Have a safe trip going to Vancouver. Others have echoed your
sentiments on poor propagation. And, still wondering what
kind of winter we will get here...but we need some rain and
cooler weather at minimum.

David never did make it back, so that's it for round 1.
Back to the top for final comments.

Charley, anything else for us?? >>>

**

NT5R:

Happy Birthday to Arlene, enjoy your family. Slick about
friend from first grade

Bob, one fellow on our 3858 morning net said Eureka Springs
few days ago 500 corvettes in town. He had fun fun there

80 meters is improving with the season change

Carl understand about no umbrella needed, your low humidity
dry quickly. Often specially when travel alone.

Wash underwear in shower, sometimes other clothes. Hang in
car and your area they are dry in few hours.

FB with VARA in ISS SSTV. Heard the slow scan many times
but not yet decoded

Have an awesome week everyone. Type at you again soon 73>>>

**

NK5LA:

Charley, I can just see the fiberglass fun in Eureka Springs
with all the Corvettes!!

Weather and humidity can be a blessing or a curse, especially
when doing laundry. I have seen several memes where the XYL
is using the OM's antenna to dry laundry with...it's quicker
on high power (hi hi). Have a good week, sir.

Bob, thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else??? >>>

**

NS2B:

Yep, that many Corvettes in one spot is bound to be fun!
Nothing else, everyone have a good week - 73 >>>

**

NK5LA:

Take care, Bob...see you next week.

Carl, anything else?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

Nothing more from AZ for now. Everyone have a great week,
type at you next Monday. >>>

**

NK5LA:

Take care, Carl...see you next week.

Rick, you get to wrap it up tonight...have a good trip next
week. Anything else?? >>>

**

VA7RBP:

Arlene says thanks for the Birthday wishes!

The trip should go well, we're taking it easy, staying in a
hotel about the mid-point... can't do long haul drives any
more.

Everyone have a great couple of weeks, stay well, 73 until
next time. BTU Daryl >>>

**

NK5LA:

Rick, have a good trip...I had thought about going to the
Huntsville Hamfest next year, but aside from the cost, the
walking is just too much for me anymore. We'll see you in
2 weeks.

That will do it for tonight's net...see everyone in October.

73 and GN DE NK5LA. >>>
