Early checkin from Endaf, N6UTC...and Wayne, KC2NJV.
Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Scott, Carl, Rick, Bob (OK),
Jeff, and whoever else shows up.
Our next net holiday is 3 weeks from tonight, on Monday,
Sept. 7, for the US Labor Day Holiday. After that, there
are no more net holidays until Thanksgiving, Christmas,
and New Years. Obviously, the PCL Net will be off each
of those evenings.
Several aspects of H.A.M. have affected me lately. First,
Haven't Any Memory, when I forgot about a VoIP Net I was
supposed to run on Saturday evening. A fellow Arkansas
ham texted me, and it was like a Bart Simpson moment; a
face palm with "DOH!!". Then, continuing with that, trying
to remember everything I'm supposed to pack for this weeks
Huntsville Hamfest...I'm sure that I'm going to forget
something. I still have to pack my pulse oximeter, glucose
testing supplies, and forehead thermometer...all the rest
of the medical apps are on my phone.
But, at Huntsville, it will be Have Another Meal, as the
hotel where I'm staying has a full hot breakfast bar that
I can partake of each morning, before heading to the Von
Braun Center. Friday night, a fellow ham said "If you come
to Huntsville, I'll buy your meal at the 88 Buffet", which
features Asian, American, Hibachi, Sushi (bait (hi hi)),
and seafood. I didn't require a second invitation (hi hi),
but I have to pick up the gratuity. They're expecting over
100 folks there. Then, for doing a forum on the benefits of
joining the Quarter Century Wireless Association (QCWA), I
get a free lunch (so much for the TANSTAFFL deal (there
ain't no such thing as a free lunch) from Robert Heinlein
(hi hi)).
If it hadn't been help from another local ham, the trip would
have been called off, as it would've been Haven't Any Money;
as being on a fixed income makes it difficult. I may buy some
prize tickets (the data is at hamfest.org), but I want to save
the funds for food and transportation via Lyft, unless I can
get a fellow ham to provide transportation...especially since
I no longer drive or have a car.
Today, nearby storms resulted in power and internet outages,
so it was Have A Mattress...eat, sleep, ham, repeat. I could
not do anything computer wise without power or internet.
Considering I have to be up way before sunrise Thursday
morning, I'm trying to be well rested beforehand. I don't
cherish the long bus ride, but it was the cheapest way to go.
However, I would rather someone else do the driving.
I will be in my Train Conductors Outfit all 3 days, Friday
through Sunday, so I'll be caught on YouTube, and likely the
ARRL Facebook page. This is my first out of state, multi-day
vacation in 9 years...and I am looking forward to getting away
from things for a few days.
I found another APRS server to checkin to...email me at
nk5la@arrl.net for info. I use the APRSIS32 program, and you
will be able to track me on my trip to/from Huntsville via
NK5LA-10 on my smartphone.

GE All.
A busy week! I was labor for a wedding shower over the weekend.
It pre-empted a ham fest that I had been thinking about going
to - but I think the wedding shower for the YL's daughter was
probably more important.
I've also been prototyping a linux bpq node. I think this fall
I'm going to finally bite the bullet and make the switch.
I've been looking at those POC radios. I'm thinking about getting
one I can load all the voip apps on, like echolink, voxdmr, qso one,
etc... time will tell.

Bob, I thought a wedding shower was when the newly married bride
and groom did in the honeymoon suite after a busy day (hi hi). I
agree...family does take priority.

GE all it was a good week, and beat the odds and did not melt.
Spent time in the garage doing maintenance and all that.

not made it to the proto-type stage.

GE All. Have fun at the hamfest, Daryl, and enjoy all the free
food while it lasts.
Indeed, after the talk last week, I found the D-Rats software and
set it up, though I have had problems finding active ratflectors
other than the arkansas one.
I still need to do some listening on the local D-Stars node to see
if there is any activity there. A couple of other activies are
simmering in the background.
I got my EggNOGS egg-beater antenna kits along with some copper
wire to make the elements, so I will see how well they work.
I think I found some satellite tracking software that will
automatically tune the doppler compensation, so will have to try
that out as well.
Also, been checking around and have found three NTS nets that I
can manage to reach ... two on HF and one on VHF (but only via
Echolink) so working on joining the traffic handling crowd.

Carl, first, on D-Rats...the only ratflectors that I know of
that are online are Alabama (alabama.ratflector.com), Georgia
ARES (gaares.ratflector.com), Paulding County Georgia AREA
(pldares.ratflector.com), and the Saint Tammany Parish,
Louisiana one (sttammany.ratflector.com) -- all are port 9000.
I mainly hang out on the Saint Tammany one.
FB on the EggNogs egg-beater antenna kits, the satellite
tracking software, and the NTS nets. That's one thing I've
always wanted to learn was handling radiograms and NTS
traffic.
On the food, all of us need that to survive...and I never
turn down a free meal. :)

Nothing exciting to report, we have had a lot of wildfire
smoke funneling into our area from fires in Washington
state, and the air quality has been pretty bad. We have been
hiding indoors for the past couple of weeks, just watching
TV...
Radio wise, propagation has been poor as well. So...really
isolated.
We had a couple days of rain that cleared the air for a
bit, and now it's starting to get smokey again.
I haven't checked in here for a couple of weeks due to not
much to report.
We're hoping for some more rain...

Rick, bummer on the wildfire smoke. As of Tuesday morning
(when I prepared the scribe), 67 of Arkansas' 75 counties
are under burn bans, including Pulaski (Little Rock), with
moderate to high fire danger statewide. There have been
some scattered thunderstorms around...a complex of storms
went from Tulsa to Memphis, with damaging winds yesterday.
However, what few areas have gotten rain, that's not going
to do much toward easing the drought and fire danger.
I haven't had time to get remotehams.com set back up, due
to preparing for the Huntsville Hamfest coming up.
As for not much to report, we still appreciate you stopping
by.

Daryl, I'm jealous that you're going to Huntsville... and
I'm not. Hope to get there someday.
I'm ready for some fall (autumn) weather. It is Hot Hot Hot
here in Central Oklahoma. The forecasted highs for the next
few days: 108, 107, 104, 104 and 103. Reminds me of when we
lived in Phoenix back in the '70s. Crazy Hot!
It has been a few weeks since I've been on here. We had a
successful 'Ham Holiday' here in Norman. Several of my buddies
from Northeast Oklahoma came over, and I got to hang out and
visit with them. It was fun to catch up!
Bob (NY) can you point me towards more info about that POC
radio?

Bob (OK), I normally would be lucky to have funds just go
go to Huntsville, Arkansas!! This is my first out of state,
multi-day vacation in 9 years...and after spending a week in
the psychiatric ward a few weeks after my brothers suicide 2
years ago, the psychiatrist said "a vacation would do me a
world of good". After I got released, a fellow ham quipped
"You have an excuse to be sane...the rest of us aren't so
lucky!!" (hi hi).
We've had similar temperatures in Arkansas, and some areas
are 2 feet below their normal yearly rainfall.
I had a great time at the Ham Holiday in Oklahoma City
several years ago, where I got to meet Tim Duffy, K3LR, and
the late Bob Heil, K9EID (SK). I saw where The Heartland
Flyer maybe has funding to keep it going for another year.
We'll get back to Bob (NY) shortly for his POC radio comments.

Good morning, Daryl, everyone. Jeff, in the Philippines, so it's
8:45 AM here. My first time on the PCL net. Saw it on the BPQ BBS.
Glad to be here.
I'm about 2 hours south of Manila, and it's torrential downpour
raining. I'm also WK3U when I'm in the US.
Split my time between Florida and here. We're very big into EMCOMM
in the Philippines, because of the volcanoes, earthquakes, typhoons,
and all the other bad stuff.
Big into satellite ops and have a satellite station, both here and
in Florida. I will be attending the AMSAT annual symposium in October
in Jacksonville, Florida.
Next week, we start our journey back to the US, but will stop in
Tokyo for the Tokyo Ham Fair. Excited about that, but a little nervous
about navigating Japanese ham radio, hi hi.
I'll try to check in more often. In September I'll be back on US time.
