N5VLZ:
First, Happy Veterans Day to the US Hams, and
Happy Remembrance Day to the Canadian Hams.
We wish to thank all of our veterans for all
of their service, whether having served,
serving now, and remembering those who paid
the ultimate price for the freedoms that we
enjoy. I couldn't do much today, due to the
Veterans Day holiday, as some businesses were
closed.
Speaking of holidays, our next net holidays
are Nov. 25, 2 weeks from tonight for the US
Thanksgiving Holiday (Canada had theirs on
the US Columbus Day Weekend), then Dec. 23
for Christmas Week, and Dec. 30 for the New
Year's holiday. The PCL Net will take those
nights off, making our final net for 2024 on
Monday, Dec. 16. We wish everyone a safe and
enjoyable holiday season.
I accepted from Liberty Mutual, the parent
insurance company for Lyft, a nice monetary
settlement for my pain and suffering from
the wreck last month coming back from my PCP,
due to the carelessness by the driver. I'm
still waiting on a form from them, as well as
the ambulance and ER bills, which they will
pay.
I'm hoping I can get a good bit from the 401k
my late brother had (my sister-in-law is still
working on that, when she's not with her ailing
Mom). We have to pay the taxes on it, but if it
is a good amount, I have it on the "wish list"
to go to Orlando for Hamcation next February.
I originally was to go back in 2014, but health
issues with my Mom (who passed away 5 1/2 years
later) forced me to cancel it. Aside from the
funding issues, home security while away, are
the 2 red flags.
However, I haven't been outside of Arkansas
since 2017, when I took the bus (what a grueling
ride that was), to the Huntsville, Alabama
Hamfest. But, with the tragic suicide of my
brother just over 4 months ago, I'm in sore need
of a vacation. I'm not sure whether I'll take
Amtrak or fly (I'd miss fewer nets if I go via
Southwest Airlines), but Amtrak would give me
more time to unwind; plus give me a chance to be
railroad mobile. If prices were what they were
40 years ago, it would be much easier. But, the
only thing I could do for now is to buy myself
a Hamcation admission ticket. Overall though,
I wonder if it would be more trouble than it's
worth.
I'm to see my PCP on Thursday for a full physical,
blood work, including an A1C and wellness check.
This is a reschedule from last month, when they
either deleted it, or didn't put it into the
computer (I should have sent them a bill (hi hi)).
Then, my PCP is going elsewhere, so I have to get
my 3rd PCP in 2 years. I just hope I do not cross
the threshold of type 2 diabetes, as that'll be a
major game changer. I then see the podiatrist on
Nov. 20, and that should be my last medical deal
for the year. With other bills, I'm skipping the
next sleep study for now.
We may get a hard freeze by mid to late next week.
I'm ready for the grass to quit growing until next
spring. My lawn guy is due here tomorrow to trim
the bushes on the north side of the house, plus mow
the grass and mulch the leaves. Back on Nov. 11-12,
1911, a powerful Arctic cold front swept through
Arkansas. Temperatures dropped more than 70 degrees
in parts of northern and western Arkansas. Up at
Harrison, readings went from 76 degrees on the 11th
to 5 degrees on the morning of the 12th. Talk about
thermal shock!!

NS2B:
GE All!
Another uneventful week.
Spent Saturday raking leaves.
Sunday, I watched races, football, and ate too much.
On the ham radio front, been playing with VarAC and
got the node connected to VE2PKT over AMPRnet.
Good luck with the knees Glenn - thanks to our
veterans - everyone have a good week - 73.

KX4AC:
GE All, and thanks to all the veterans out there.
It has been a mostly quiet week. A bunch of fire drills
and problems at work, but that is pretty much normal
these days.
Had had good luck with HAMWORD this week, which makes
up for the dismal showing I put in last week. Those
words with duplicated letters always throw me.
Not much else on the ham front. Worked a little on some
BBS content, but that's about it.
Nothing else from Florida right now. 73s to all.

KE8QPX:
Week was good, but not much to report.
Reprogrammed my HT's, as some items had changed, and
what I thought would be a 10minute job lasted for maybe
2 hours!
Time is still flying around here and two blinks of an
eye, and another week has gone by. I try to make time
for this net and all I know is it seems to come up fast.
Just to confirm, net as usual next week, no net the
week after that? And 73 everyone.

N3MEL:
GE All, Thank You to all that served..
So I am doing a Copy and Paste tonight for my first round
but not sure it is going to work. Using BPQ's web interface
from my iPad, but here it comes LOL
(Glenn disconnected, then returned).
Well, that answered that!!
Anyway, I will be having a double knee replacement on
Wednesday, so not sure when I will be back on the net. I
was not going to hold the PKTNET this month, but Eric,
WG3K, has offered to take it for Nov and Dec, if needed.
So the Net will start next Sunday as scheduled.

KF5TVG:
GE Daryl and the net!
Hope all our veterans had a great day today!
Daryl, your cousin's fire drill made me LOL. Like her
"spunk"!
Not much radio to report. We made some progress with my
wife's mobility issues today. She had a failed surgery
1 1/2 years ago to mend torn tendons in her left hip.
Very difficult for her to walk, even with a walker.
Today, she was fitted for a new brace, and was able to
walk a bit with a cane. Much easier for her to get
around! It's a true blessing!!
Will be praying for a great outcome for Glenn on Wednesday.
Also appreciate Daryl and Bob (NY) for making the net
possible. 73 and all the best to all BTU >>>

Comments from N5VLZ (as I can recall them):
Bob (NY), FB on watching sports, raking, and eating. This
is not the time of year to diet...but you need to build up
the insulation for the cold winter ahead (hi hi). FB on the
VarAC and connections via AMPRNet.
Carl, on the fire drill, many years ago, my cousin set off
the fire alarm at her elementary school. Needless to say, the
police, fire department, ambulance folks, and her parents were
called. When asked why she set it off, she replied "We hadn't
had a fire drill in a long time, that I felt we needed one!!".
Her parents didn't have the heart to spank her, but I'll bet
that the fire marshal wanted to do that to the principal (hi hi).
I still have not had a chance to do HAMWORD, but I'm not that
good with word games, including Scrabble.
Mike, bummer on having to reprogram the HT's. Years ago, they
were so easy to set up...but without programming cables and
software nowadays, you can forget it!! As I told Bob (NY) just
before the net, "Easter will be here before you know it". We'll
meet next week (Nov. 18), be OFF on Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving
Week, then meet Dec. 2, 9, and 16...then take Dec. 23 off for
Christmas and Dec. 30 off for New Year's, returning on Jan. 6,
2025.
Glenn, so much for modern technology (hi hi). I originally
did copy and paste from Windows Notepad, but it was too hard
for folks to read, so I just put the comments here. Good luck
on the double knee replacement surgery...I had my left hip
replaced a year ago, and what a difference it has made!! Take
as much time as you need off from the net...your health comes
first!!
Bob (OK), my cousin was even more spunky just before she turned
3. Several family members in the area and outside Ohio (which
included my family) were visiting, and were chatting in her
aunt's backyard one evening, with a wading pool there. When she
was asked if she wanted to go swimming, she must've had skinny
dipping on her mind, as she stripped butt naked right there
(hi hi)!! FB on the progress with your XYL's mobility issues.
