Next week is the Canadian Thanksgiving, with
the US Columbus Day. Hard to believe it's
October already.
The time change back to Standard Time occurs
on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2am local time. The time
for this net, and most other nets won't change,
but the UTC times will be an hour later. Our
next net holidays are Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving
Week, Dec. 23 for Christmas Week, and Dec. 30
for New Year's week.
27 of Arkansas' 75 counties are now under burn
bans, but no rain is expected through next Monday.
Our thoughts and prayers go to all of those in
Florida, who will get slammed my major hurricane
Milton Wednesday into Friday. As of the 0000 UTC
Tuesday advisory, he had 180 mph winds (category
5), with a central pressure of 897 millibars or
26.49 inches. He's supposed to weaken to high end
category 3 or low end category 4, and it appears
that Tampa will take a direct hit, with a 15 foot
storm surge. Milton will traverse the Interstate 4
corridor, also affecting places like Orlando, and
Cape Canaveral. They may even have damage at Disney
World. Hurricane and Tropical Storm Warnings cover
much of the peninsula, and hurricane nets will be
activated.
At least most areas that got slammed by Helene
recently will miss the brunt of Milton. If the
Fairgrounds where Hamcation is set to take place
in February, suffers severe damage (not to mention
the hotels), they may postpone or cancel Hamcation;
but that remains to be seen. Amtrak has stopped all
train service south of Jacksonville through at least
Friday, and airline service will end at most of the
regional airports Tuesday.
I got the property taxes paid on my place, but it's
up to my sister-in-law to pay my late brother's taxes.
I got stuck with paying them the last 2 years, and so
she's responsible for all of it now...we hope to get
the property transferred over to her this week. She
had to put the pickup truck in the shop last week,
and is working to get a stepstool for me to get into
it.
I made one update on the Net List spreadsheets and PDF
files, adding a new net that meets at the same time
this net does. There are too many nets, too many modes,
too much confusion, and too little time to checkin to
them. I got a HamShack Hotline setup on my smartphone,
but haven't used it yet. I'm hoping to do a license
exam session on Oct. 19, but I'm down 3 VE's, due to
illness, or travel. If I can't get the needed number
by Oct. 17, I'll cancel the session. I am trying to
checkin to more nets during the week, but really don't
want to take on another net to run...as I'm running
six nets during the week already. Guess who is guilty
for violating the N.A.V.Y. rule -- which is "Never
Again Volunteer Yourself" (hi hi).

GE All!
It was a good week. The wx is cooling down. Time to
change out the wardrobe for the sweaters and hoodies.
I heard today that the Bucs are moving their practice
to New Orleans tomorrow, as their facility will be
impacted by Milton. I realize that people love the wx
in Florida - but they seem to be having too many bad
storms in recent years. I'll just stay in NY!
We had a simulated emergency exercise here over the
weekend. Lots of radio activity including Winlink. It
was kind of interesting, and I guess worked out for
the most part. One of the fellows just issued a report
on the things that could've gone better. I haven't
digested that yet.
Forgot to mention I got my flu shot today. Now I feel
like I need a nap. Which really just means early to bed!

Good evening Daryl and all on the NET!
It's definitely heading toward winter, the temps at
night are dipping into the low 30's, but still not bad
during the day. We have 72F at the moment.
Once again, I haven't been up to much, just doing a lot
of reading.
I do my PACTOR sessions in the mornings on 40M and 20m,
then some PACKET on 20M, but that's about it. I think
I've been doing too much reading lately, and it has been
overriding my radio play time...
Our Thanksgiving is coming up next Monday, not sure what
I'll be doing. For the past couple of years, we have been
going over to our Daughter's for dinner. I may or may not
drop into the NET...we will see...
Nothing exciting planned for this week, once again, we
will see what happens.
I think I will attempt to pick up some ISS SSTV images,
it's supposed to start Oct 08 around 1600 UTC.

The week was pretty good, it was a bit rainy on the
weekend, but that was unrelated to Milton.
I am happily getting bulletins from Bob(NY) ... thanks
Bob!
And, I see that the ISS is going to be sending SSTV over
the weekend ... I will have to try and catch some of that.
As far as Milton goes, we are hoping that by the time it
gets here (45 minutes south of the Cape) it will hopefully
only be Cat 1. Bad enough, but survivable. I am on fairly
high ground (for coastal Florida) so should not have any
bad flooding. Tomorrow at work, we will mostly be packing
stuff up, and covering computers with plastic to protect
them from water. The company is closing for Wednesday and
Thursday, and hopefully, will be open again by Friday ...
depending on power. The last time we had a bad storm, I
was without power for about 5 days, but at least I had
water. We will keep our fingers crossed. In the meantime,
I am working on making sure everything chargeable is charged.
Forgot to mention that I was looking forward to the local
hamfest this weekend, but that is now on hold. They are
working with the venue to reschedule.
Back to hurricane prep :-)

Still summer here. Too hot!
Nothing to report on the radio side. Had planned to participate
in the SET in NE Oklahoma on Saturday, but a good friend's
mother passed away and the funeral was that day. Drive was 2
hours each way, so it didn't work out this year.
I'll be another year older before the next net. Friday, Oct 11
will make 74 spins around ol Sol. Yikes that's a lot of miles!

Hello everyone on the net. My week flew by. Can't say I remember
much of it. Kind of stop and go and then I'm tired at night so,
on to another day.
Was trying a new terminal and it got stuck or something that's
why I've been in and out here.
Weather here in Michigan is very good. Better than normal. Guess
all that stuff down south is doing something this way too.
Don't have much else to say but I wanted to stop by and see what
was up. Wishing everyone a good week, especially Carl. All take
care.

Bob (NY), FB on the wx...it's supposed to drop into the 70s for
highs, but it'll warm back up into the 80s before another dry
cold front early next week. Overnight lows have been in the 50s.
I saw the deal on the SET this past weekend, but had other things
going on. As for Florida, there was a meme a few years back,
showing that Florida had MOVED to between Montana and the Dakotas,
screaming "Enough Is Enough!!" (hi hi). I hope they don't use a
barbed wire needle on my flu shot (hi hi).
Rick, FB on the wx, PACTOR, and reading. I cut down the number
of YouTube channels I was subscribed to, as I can't sit at the
computer for long periods of time anymore. Radio is more important
(hi hi). If you don't make it next week due to Thanksgiving, I'll
give you an early checkin. GL on getting the SSTV images that Carl
noted.
Carl, FB on the packet bulletins from NS2B, the ISS sending out
SSTV, and GL on dealing with Milton. The Slidell, LA hamfest had
to be moved to November, due to Hurricane Francine in September.
Bob (OK), sorry to hear of the passing of your friend's mother.
Happy early birthday...you can eat some cake for the rest of us
(hi hi). I hit 65 next March, and am getting slammed with Medicare
plans, although I've been in that with Disability for over 20 years,
I plan to stick with my HMO next year, and the enrollment opens up
on Oct. 15. My PCP got married, and changed her name, so I have to
update things there. I go in for a full physical, blood work, A1C
check, and flu shot next week, so I'll have to fast (ugh!).
Mike, same with me with each day. I have to get a power nap in the
afternoon, but have had insomnia lately. I was wondering why your
connection was erratic, but that explains it. FB on the wx in
Michigan...it is the change of seasons.
