N5VLZ:

The rest of my comments are in the scribe to
save time, and to make it easier on the eyes
of all on the net; plus it'll get folks to
read the messages.

My comments include "no games on the new PC",
Hamshack Hotline, unsettled weather, the local
college fall picnic, preparing for a BBS
software switch, and a new blood pressure
medication.

GE All!

Well it's been a couple weeks actually!

Our NASCAR camping weekend was fabulous this
year. Good weather, good racing, good food!
Our normal date in August is always too hot,
too windy, too wet - too bad the race returns
to the normal August date next year.

Radio wise I've about decided the 5/8 wave
VHF antenna I put up for my Winlink station
doesn't work as good as the old j-pole I had
up - so as soon as I get some time, I'm
switching back to it.

Carl, I got a test message here for you, but
I don't have a route to your system - wanna
link up?

BTW - sent you an email with a BPQ MAP entry -
that'll be useless with Amprnet/FBB. So when
you're ready, we'll figure things out.

VA7RBP:

GE Daryl and all on NET.

I missed last week...got into a book and forgot...
anyway, nothing exciting to report for the past
two weeks, just been reading. I found kindle
unlimited and they had a mess of sci-fi books,
so I have pretty much been doing that. I did
manage to play with a raspberry pi for a few
days.

I loaded a web server, and experimented with
controlling GPIO output to control devices
using a web page. We also drove to Kelowna
and back to do a Costco run this week, but
mostly reading.

This weekend, we will celebrate Arlene's 70th
birthday. We will drive up to Kaslo to the
Kaslo Hotel for a nice prime rib dinner...

KX4AC:

GE all. Well, as Bob mentioned I have been
working on my BBS ... setting up better forwarding
and testing where we do and don't have links to.
I seem to live in a packet desert, but trying to
see if I can improve that, now that my Amprnet is
up and running well. So, Bob, I certainly do want
to set up forwarding, but I still have some
configuration to do (I'm running plain vanilla LinFBB
because that's what the packeteers around here seem
to do).

Anyway, I still work full time, but as soon as I get
some configuration and testing done, I will get back
to you on setting up the link.

In the meantime, it is still hot here, but getting
better. It is still rainy, too. Almost every day.
Florida calls itself the "sunshine state", but I
call it the "sun don't never shine state." hi hi.
The weather has been good enough that I can get out
for morning walks on the weekend, and have been
making a few QSOs as "foot mobile." That definitely
adds to the fun.

I hope I can get back out this weekend, but at the
moment, my foot is hurting a bit because I bashed
in in the closet when I temporarily lost my balance.
It has been getting better, but still not up to a
long walk.

I should setup BPQ someday, but gonna keep things
simple for the immediate future. The MAP entry was
still useful, Bob, I think I can configure my side
from that. My IP is almost certainly gonna be
bbs.kx4ac.ampr.org. Anyway, we can chat offline
about that.

Comments From N5VLZ:

I had to uninstall the Auran Trainz Simulator,
as the computer is designed for "work" and not
"play". The CPU heated up to red levels, and
to prevent a fire, I had to shut things down.
The computer works fine with the ham radio and
website applications, but not with games. I
guess the only "games" will be with my BBS.

I originally was on HamShack Hotline, but the
phone and power supply died. I had bought a
refurbished phone and power supply off of
Amazon, but apparently both were bad. I had
heard there was a smartphone only option, but
if getting it requires an initial hardwired
phone, I'm out of luck. I can't afford to be
constantly getting a new phone and power supply
for it...and with not driving anymore, I just
can't get back to the post office when I want
to. I got a reply back on what I need to do,
but I was working on the BBS much of the day.

We're supposed to have an unsettled weather
week, although potential hurricane Helene will
come ashore southeast of me, it's remnants may
become absorbed in an upper level low over the
region. So, that'll mean several days of storms
and rain, with cooler temperatures. Autumn
arrived at 1243 UTC Sunday.

The local college is having their fall picnic
on Tuesday, with catered BBQ (with all the
trimmings) and desserts, for a free lunch for
students and alumni. A fellow graduate will
take us there (since I don't drive or have a
car anymore). I'm glad I went to college 40
years ago, as tuition now is 30 times what I
paid back then. The weather looks beautiful
for the event. The only time I'm on the campus
now is for the cookout, and for the license
exam sessions I do 4 times a year.

A cardiologist prescribed an additional blood
pressure medication, and while it has lowered
the blood pressure a bit, if I take a nap right
after my first meal, it knocks me out for 2 hours.
Today, I did work on my BBS, in preparation for a
software switch. I still have work to do, but I'll
be glad when it's done. With the threat of storms,
noted earlier, I figured I had better try to get
some work done.

Replies from N5VLZ:

Bob, FB on the NASCAR deal, but bummer on the
antenna. GL with getting the linking between
your system and Carl's.

Rick, happy early birthday to your XYL...enjoy
that prime rib dinner. FB on the reading, and
the webserver.

Carl, you may have to deal with Helene later
this week, but the worst should be west of you.
GL on getting the linking with Bob set up. And,
I won't give up my title of KING KLUTZ without
a fight. Before my XYL died, she got me a T-shirt
that noted on the front WARNING!! KLUTZ ON THE
LOOSE, and on the back DANGER!! ACCIDENT WAITING
TO HAPPEN!! Her response?? "That's him!!". Nice to
have the spouse so supportive (hi hi).
