N5VLZ:

The PCL Net will take Monday, July 1, 2024 OFF
(2 weeks from tonight) for the Independence Day
Holiday...it will fall on Thursday, July 4, this
year, so that means a 4 day holiday weekend for
some.

I hope that everyone had a good Father's Day
yesterday...and didn't get another stinking
necktie (hi hi). And, I hope everyone has a
productive and safe Field Day this weekend.
I don't plan to do anything, Field Day wise,
except catch up on some sleep...I haven't
rested well at night due to pain/insomnia.
It's too hot to be outdoors, and the hottest
part of the year for Arkansas is still two
months away.

I hope I can make my bland diet last another 2
weeks, or I may have to go to 1 meal a day. If
prices were like what they were 40 years ago,
I'd be OK...but such is not the case. I want to
hold the little bit of funds I have left in case
I need to get some food, even if it's microwave
macaroni and cheese cups. I'd love to go on a
grilled chicken salad diet, as I'm starting to
get burned out on ravioli and peanut butter and
jelly sandwiches. But, I can't eat all that fiber
and lettuce every day, or I might as well be on a
regimen of prune juice...and shall we say, that's
a rather crappy situation to be in (hi hi). Very
few, if any restaurants, serve iceberg lettuce in
their salads, anymore...and the romaine is too
chewy for me to work with. Never mind it's almost
not worth it to order via Grubhub, as even the
restaurants have gotten very expensive. I don't
see how folks can afford to go out to eat anymore.

Tomorrow is the last day for my home health care
after my hospitalization 2 months ago, and the
left hip flexor tendonitis diagnosis. Next month
has trips to the podiatrist, my PCP, a sleep study,
and the urologist. I've got doctors appointments
every 2 months. I wish my HMO allowed for more than
12 round trips a year. When your PCP did everything,
that was great...but now, you have all of these
specialists. With the shortage of Lyft drivers, a
trip can be rather expensive, unless you can get it
in the right time slot...and I don't have that kind
of money. While I'm inside the Little Rock city
limits, I'm just outside the coverage area for the
"Links Paratransit" service. The monthly fee would
be cheaper than 1 trip to a doctors appointment,
but it does me no good if the closest route is more
than a half mile away, and I can't walk that far to
wait on the vehicle...let alone stand in the summer
heat, worrying about sunburn and insects.

ARRL is still recovering from the hacking last month.
I saw a YouTube video, wondering if it was "an inside
job from a former disgruntled employee". I won't be
able to get to the Post Office Box until July 1,
unless I see something that's extremely important
(aside from bills (hi hi))...as I'm holding the funds
for emergency food, as noted earlier. I'm not sure
when they'll ship the new Extra Class exam books, but
I'd get it via email, and print my own, if that was
possible. They are stopping mailing out exam books due
to printing and postage costs. However, I had great
difficulty setting up that Exam Tools software...at
least the next Question Pool change isn't until 2026;
and my next test session isn't until July 13.

GE Bob, how was your week?? >>>

NS2B:

GE All!

An uneventful week. Took the Corvette out for a couple
of rides. Worked on the garden - power washed the front
of the house - need to do the rest of it now.

Regarding grocery prices - I've started splitting my
grocery trips between Aldi's and the local grocery store.
Aldi's is a bunch cheaper if you can find what you need
there.

Summer has arrived here. It was 92 today, supposed to be
similar for the rest of the week.

Not done much on the radio. It still seems like HF is in
the weeds - maybe it's just me.

A local fellow has been challenging some of us to these
murder mystery puzzles on Winlink. I sometimes feel real
stupid! hihi

That's it for me. BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Bob, FB on the Corvette, the garden, and the power washing.
I think they are going to have an Aldi's in central Arkansas,
but I doubt they would do delivery. I saw where the dollar
store chain may sell off part of what they have (Family Dollar,
Dollar Tree, etc.) -- not sure which is which. As for the summer
heat, I saw heat advisories and warnings all over the place. I
haven't done that Hamword deal, and I'm wondering how HF will be
for Field Day this weekend.

GE Carl, we missed you last week. How was the meeting, etc.?? >>>

KX4AC:

GE All,

The club meeting was pretty good. Just mostly going over Field
day stuff. We are going to have a sat station and an emergency
drill thing, so that sounds interesting.

I am still working on my QRP linear. I have it mostly together,
but needed some thin coax for RF jumpers on the board ... had to
order some RG-174, which finally came today, so I should be able
to finish it.

I have also "discovered" that K3NG has arduino software for a
keyer, which looks pretty good. So I am looking into patching
together a keyer from that.

I will definitely have to look into murder mysteries on winlink ...
didn't know that was a thing, but it sounds like something to try.
It does not bother me too much anymore feeling like an idiot, so I
am covered there. I still play HAMWORD each week, some weeks better
than others, but it remains fun.

I guess that's about all for now. BTU>>>

N5VLZ:

Carl, FB on the FD deal, plus the QRP Linear, and the keyer software.
My late Mom and I loved watching the "Murder She Wrote" series with
Angela Lansbury...and the original Perry Mason (black and white)
with Raymond Burr (who later played Ironside). I know all about those
ID 10 T (idiot) errors...my computer hardware and software barfed
trying to get to a ham radio Zoom meeting Saturday, so I gave up.

Looks like a small group tonight, but it's summer time. Back to the
top for final comments.

Bob, thanks again for the BBS...anything else?? >>>

NS2B:

Nothing more here - Carl, I'll try to find out where these murder
mystery things come from - Everyone have a good week - 73 >>>

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Bob...see you next week.

Carl, anything else?? >>>

KX4AC:

Well, I also remember watching all those murder mystery shows on TV
years ago. It was a staple around our house. Mom always fell asleep
and missed the ending :-) It's funny it came up because I saw that
Murder She Wrote is on Amazon now and I watched a couple of episodes
last weekend. Still pretty good.

I guess that's about it. 73 to all >>>

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Carl. I just can't sit at the computer for
long periods of time anymore...I'm doing less with the BBS than I
used to, but it's hard on the eyes, back, bottom, etc. See you next
week.

Looks like a short and sweet net tonight. We'll see everyone next week,
The Good Lord willing, and have a Good Field Day. 73 and GN DE N5VLZ >>>
